Attention, planet lovers! New Zealand has just announced a super ambitious climate target: to cut its emissions by between 51% and 55% by 2035, compared to 2005 levels!
This new challenge adds to the previous goal of reducing emissions by 50% by 2030, all in line with the Paris Agreement. This global treaty seeks to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, and countries around the world are stepping up.
Climate Change Minister Simon Watts described this goal as \"ambitious and achievable\", reinforcing New Zealand's commitment to global climate action.
\"Achieving this goal will mean we are doing our part to reduce climate change impacts, while enabling New Zealand to be stronger and thrive in a changing climate\", Watts stated.
