Third warmest September: the planet records temperature records

Did you know that September 2025 reached a global average temperature of 16.11°C? 🔥 This makes it the third warmest September on record.

According to the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S), that figure is 1.47°C above pre-industrial levels, reflecting the ongoing impact of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere.

In the oceans, the average sea surface temperature was 20.72°C. In much of the North Pacific, waters broke historical records, while the equatorial Pacific showed a neutral phase of the El Niño-Southern Oscillation phenomenon.

On the other hand, sea ice retreated by 12% in the Arctic and 5% in the Antarctic compared to the long-term average.

Samantha Burgess, a climate strategy leader at C3S, highlights that September 2025 was just 0.1°C below September 2024, emphasizing that temperatures remain persistently high.

Additionally, the think tank Ember highlights the crucial role of China's green energy sector in advancing the global transition away from coal and moving toward a more sustainable future 🌱⚡.

These data invite us to reflect on the urgency of taking care of our planet and joining the change. 🌍💪
